A three-month, on-site design internship at Bambrew, a sustainable packaging company in Bangalore, spanning hands-on packaging & product design alongside brand identity and visual communication work, with regular visits to their manufacturing factory.
Over three months on-site at Bambrew, I worked across the company's design function rather than on a single fixed brief, moving between packaging design, material exploration and brand identity depending on what the team needed. Regular visits to the manufacturing factory meant I got to see how materials actually behaved at production scale, not just on paper or in a prototype.
The internship split roughly into two fronts: hands-on packaging & product design work, and brand identity & visual communication for the company. One packaging concept I designed was selected by the team and later shipped as a dedicated application on Bambrew's official website, the most concrete outcome of the internship.
This is where most of my hands-on time went, starting with the one concept that made it all the way to production.
As part of an internal design assignment, I redesigned the graphics and visual identity of Bambrew's milk pouch packaging. The concept was selected by the team and later featured as a dedicated application on Bambrew's official website.
Re-examined the physical structure and opening experience of conventional milk pouches to reduce detached plastic pieces and improve controlled pouring. Explored tear notches, scored openings, pull-tabs and peelable solutions before developing the final concept.
Once the milk pouch redesign was locked in, my focus shifted to shaping how Bambrew looks and speaks across every touchpoint.
Developed Bambrew's brand guideline book to establish a consistent visual language across different touchpoints. Defined logo usage, colour systems, typography, grids, hierarchy and visual application rules.
Designed branded stationery including business cards, letterheads, envelopes, notebooks, diaries and pens. The applications helped translate the visual identity into consistent everyday company touchpoints.
Designed event-related graphics and signage to maintain a consistent Bambrew presence beyond digital platforms. The work translated the brand identity into larger physical communication formats.
Extended Bambrew's identity into applications such as T-shirts, email signatures and other branded assets. These helped create a more unified brand experience across internal and external communication.
Between the two design fronts, regular trips to the factory floor grounded everything in how it's actually made.
A visit that gave me a whole new perspective on design, tracing Bambrew's sustainable packaging all the way from raw material to finished product.
Witnessed the complete journey of sustainable packaging from raw material to finished product, seeing how every roll and pallet moves through the plant before it ships out.
Seeing the entire journey beyond the design desk made me appreciate the balance between creativity and manufacturing. It reinforced why I design for what's practical, scalable and reliable, not just what looks right on screen. Great design happens when creativity, engineering, manufacturing and people come together, and I'm grateful I got to witness that firsthand.
Too much light out here. My eyes hurt a little.
